Hummers was published in Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, short-listed for the Nebula Award, and chosen for The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror 5th Annual Collection (St. Martin's Press). It's a tough but compassionate story about death and dying. I've included Terri Windling's wonderful introduction to the story.
